2020 First State Duathlon To Be Virtual

We were looking forward to having our 4th Annual First State Duathlon at Bellevue State Park as usual and we hope everyone shares our public health concerns that require us to change our plans for our 2020 event.  After discussing this with our board, volunteers, partner organizations, and previous participants, we have decided to take the event virtual. We hope that many more will be able to participate in our event as a result and hopefully will also raise a lot of money for Urban Bike Project of Wilmington as well as other nonprofits our participants want to support.

There are two options for which you can enter results, an official course, and a virtual "ride anywhere" course. Information about the official course is shared here and you can run and ride this course at your own pace and schedule. Results will be compiled as they are sent/posted. After the event, we will determine winners and share final results. For the virtual course option, you can ride your virtual duathlon anywhere. Although we leave the exact distance and course difficulty to you, we recommend a distance of a 5K run (3.1 miles), a 20K bike (12 miles), and a 2.5K run (1.5 miles). Competing as a 2- or 3-person relay team isn't really possible as a virtual event, but certainly if you wanted to compete as a team and submit your results jointly, we will recognize them accordingly.

We will share results of our virtual distance competitors as well. All results must be submitted by 11 am on Monday, August 3 to be counted. Competitors can submit multiple  attempts (but only one attempt per registration will count, so if you want to beat your score after you've submitted a result, you should register again).

Registrants who select the swag option will be sent the official race swag after the event. For those completing the official course, we will recognize the top men & women across each age group similar to previous years.

Fundraising. As in previous years, we strongly encourage participants to raise money for their favorite nonprofit. You can search for many Delaware nonprofits at www.degives.org and donate or start a personal fundraising page for any of them by clicking on the donate or "start a fundraiser" button on their page and follow the on screen instructions. Part of your race registration fees will benefit Urban Bike Project of Wilmington, and you can also make an additional donation to Urban Bike Project when you register.

Social Media. We will be using our Facebook event page to share pictures and results. If sharing on Instagram, please use the hashtag #FirstStateDuo so we can find and like/share it.

First State Duathlon. The First State Duathlon is an an initiative of Spur Impact Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in Wilmington, Delaware.
